Today's Horoscope This week This month

Scorpio horoscope for January 2023

For the first time in 12 years, you move into the New Year with Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion in your work sector and this gets this new professional year off to a stunning start. Jupiter only returned just before Christmas but for the second in 2022, having retrograded back out less than eight weeks earlier. It was the five months that Jupiter has already spent here last year that makes this less something that is starting from scratch and more a do over, this time knowing now what you didn't then. Jupiter will have his foot on the gas until leaving in January, but there is one thing stopping things from getting away on you too soon.

That something is the dwarf planet Eris, who is one of the four planets that will start the year in retrograde motion. By the end of the month every planet in the solar system will be back in direct motion and if you think 2022 flew by, then let me introduce you to 2023. The first planet to turn direct will be Eris, with the warrior princess of the cosmos turning direct in your work sector on 12th January. This is the only thing holding Jupiter back and this is when this new professional year will really take off. Fortunately, the first Full Moon of 2023 will fall in an adventurous part of your chart on 7th January, before things really get busy.

The next planet to turn direct will be Mars, with the warrior planet of the cosmos turning direct just a day later on 13th January in your financial sector. Within the space of 24 hours, the warrior prince and princess of the cosmos will both turn direct, one firing up your warrior and competitive spirit on the job front and the other your financial passions and fighting spirit. The next planet to turn direct will be Mercury, who will end his retrograde phase in your communication sector on 19th January. As the last planet to turn direct will be Uranus in your relationship sector on 23rd January, they will work together in what will be a valuable chance to give your relationships, the past and unsaid words a voice.

Love & Romance

On both the romantic and relationship fronts there might be a sleepy feel to things as you move into the New Year, as you both adjust to Jupiter's departure from your romantic sector just before Christmas and as you wait for Uranus' direct turn in your relationship sector on 23rd January and for the next chapter in an ongoing romantic story. Jupiter has left you with a sense of what's possible on the romantic front, but this is just the start of a journey that will continue for another three years. It is in March when Saturn joins up with dreamy Neptune that the real journey towards turning romantic dreams into reality will begin.

Until then, the year begins with Neptune and the asteroid Juno, the queen of commitment back on their own, with a chance to begin the year with the resolve to follow your heart and to follow through on Jupiter's sense of what's possible. Juno, who returned for what should have been a three month visit in April will finally leave on 13th January, having played an important role in the resolve and the resolutions that will have an impact over the coming months and years. This will leave Neptune on his own but not for long, with Venus returning on 27th January. This will see the first month of 2023 with the planets of love and dreams coming together to create some of the most romantically charged weeks of 2023.

It is just before Venus returns that the Moon will make its first visit to your romantic sector for the year, from 24th January to 26th January. This will see the Moon return during Uranus' first full day in direct motion in your relationship sector, the point when the focus not only shifts to the future, but preparations begin for Jupiter's return in May. With Saturn returning to your romantic sector for the first time in three decades in March 2023 is destined to be a big year for love and for your relationships, with hints of what is to come in the early weeks of the year.

Business & Career

The new professional year gets off with a bang thanks to Jupiter's return to your work sector just before Christmas. This is something that you have had a chance to get a feel for over the holiday period and especially as the Moon is just wrapping up its last visit for 2022 as we move into the New Year. The Moon and Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion spent the last hours of 2022 aligned, allowing you to move into this new professional year with your instincts sharp and with luck on your side from the start. However, this is not your first rodeo, with Jupiter having already spent five months here before retrograding back out at the end of October.

At the same time, the last planet that left was not the same planet that returned less than eight weeks later. They say that a holiday is as good a rest, but this has been a real circuit breaker. Not only is Jupiter back in direct motion, armed with the experience gained last year and knowing where he has planted all the seeds, he will have his foot on the gas until leaving in May. Jupiter isn't up to full speed yet and with Venus not returning until next month there is a lot of confidence and enthusiasm but no urgency. The msg from the professional gods is 'we've got this'.

Two events within the space of 24 hours will add a little rocket fuel to this new professional year and this is when you are likely to find that you are either into back to work mode or when you can feel the pace start to pick up. It begins with the dwarf planet Eris' direct turn here on 12th January, something that will release the final brake holding things back. This will be followed by the asteroid Juno, the queen of commitment's return on 13th January, giving you the resolve to move things forward. In a case of perfect timing, the Moon will make its first visit to your career sector for the year from 8th January to 10th January, allowing you to go into this with your professional instincts and imagination fuelled.

When the Sun left your income sector just before Christmas, as it does at this time each year this turned the solar spotlight off your income situation, matters and options. This also ended all planetary activity on this side of the financial fence, but the timing means that this could have ongoing implications. It was during the Sun's last full day in your income sector and with the Moon returning on the same day to sharpen your nose for money, that Jupiter returned to your work sector. The Sun and Moon have moved on, but Jupiter hasn't and as he moves into a five month period of job growth and expansion it is with a sense of where the money is from the start.

In the meantime, while the money gods have shifted their focus onto the other side of the financial fence, with Mars not only still in retrograde motion as we move into the New Year but slowing to a crawl, there is a lack of urgency and still more focus on where you have been than where you are going. The warrior planet of the cosmos is using this as a chance to get what you can while the doors are still open to the past and especially when it comes to clues to where you can take your financial power back. Like a bow that pulls an arrow back and on release shoots forward, Mars' direct turn on 13th January will mark the point when this financial year really gets going.

The Moon will make two visits to your financial sector this month, one from 3rd January to 6th January while Mars is still in retrograde motion and then returning on 30th January. By then Mars will have been in direct motion for over two weeks, with his financial passions and fighting spirit looking for an outlet. In each visit, the Moon can fuel your financial instincts and imagination while ensuring you are emotionally engaged. Meanwhile, the Moon will make its first visit to your income sector for the year from 18th January to 20th January, something that can sharpen your nose for money and act as a trigger in the heart of Jupiter's first full month back in your work sector.

For the first time in 12 years, you have moved into the New Year with Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion in your health sector, making this the year to take your power and control of your own body back. Jupiter spent five months here last year but as well as spending half of that time in retrograde motion, he never got out of first gear. However, this has been a valuable experience, which you can draw on while also taking an advantage of the chance this brings for a fresh start. Yet if you are going to set any New Year's resolutions wait a few weeks with the asteroid Juno, the queen of commitment returning to your health sector on 13th January. By the time the Moon returns from 26th January to 28th January, you will have all your ducks in a row.
